From 2009 - 2015 Waito’s work focused on mineral specimens – a subject that encompassed her interests in geology, geometry, light, and a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world. Waito collected, photographed, and then painted each tiny mineral in exacting detail. These small-scale oil paintings evolved over time from isolated objects to full fields of crystals evoking fantastical mountain ranges.

This extensive body of work was the subject of three solo exhibitions and was included in multiple group shows and art fairs, internationally.
